Climate change effects on wetlands

Drought in South Africa

There has been reported increase in severe droughts since the beginning of the year 2024. The most affected countries are Zambia and Malawi that have declared it as a national disaster. Zimbabwe is also on the brink of declaring drought a national disaster. Angola, Madagascar, Botswana have also been reached by the severe droughts. The World Health organization estimates the number of people that have to survive from relief food at 20 million with the numbers expected to increase. The climate change effects in this region has also led to damage of crops with 6 million people affected in Zambia! Mangwe in Zimbabwe is the most affected.
